Welcome to Chilcote/Credit Brittanys. We have been breeding quality Brittanys for forty five years. Our dogs have excelled in every venue possible. We have owned and bred many top ten dogs, including the number one Brittany for two consecutive years. Our dogs have earned OTCH titles in obedience, MACH titles in agility, hunting titles (including DC), and rally titles. A few of our Brittanys have excelled in therapy work, bringing joy to the patients they visit.
Chilcote Brittanys began in 1968 when Shirley Chilcote bought her first Brittany. It was a cute little roan puppy named Larry’s Dottie. They quickly discovered one Brittany was not enough so Snooper’s Freckles and Patti Be Good joined their family. Shirley competed for Companion Dog obedience titles (CD) and Freckles became her first obedience titled Brittany.
Ch. Princess Perky was her first show champion and every champion that followed had Chilcote as their kennel name. Then she began showing Am/Can/Pr Ch. Chilcote’s Charger Am/Can CD, known as Charger. He was Shirley’s first group placing Brittany. At around this time they bred their first litter that had liver and white puppies. One of those puppies would become the most famous of any Chilcote Brittany. His name was Am/Can Ch. Chilcote’s Bent Oak Creditor, known as Credit. He was one of the few livers to be specialed. Credit’s antics brought him as much recognition as his accomplishments in the show ring. He got an Award of Merit at Westminster and one out of the Veterans class at the Brittany National Specialty Show. He continued his legacy through his children, producing many top winning Brittanys. Simultaneously, Am/Can Ch. Chilcote’s Twin Oak Challenge, known as Chip, was being shown. He had six group one’s and many group placements.
In 1995 and 1996 Ch. Chilcote’s Credit Account, known as Count, was the number one Brittany and the winner of the Pedigree Award. He had fifty group placements with three group one’s. Am/Can Ch. Chilcote’s Credit Line was a Best in Show winner with thirty-five group placements, including five group one’s. Ch. Chilcote’s Credit To Ceasar JH has multiple Best in Specialty wins and he is a two time Award of Merit winner at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. He also has five group one’s. His son Int’l/Am GCh. Chilcote’s Talk About Me TDI has two Best in Specialty wins and received an Award of Merit at the Brittany National Specialty Show. Our present star is GCh. Credit Where Credit Is Due. His father is Ch. Millette’s Downtown Brown JH, who was the father of our famous dog, Credit. He is just starting out as a special and we look forward to what the future holds. This handful of dogs does not closely total the number of Chilcote Brittanys that have made an impact on our breeding program and they do not touch the number of dogs who have been extremely successful in the show ring.
Shirley Chilcote’s forty-three years of experience breeding and showing Brittanys is now being passed on to JessieSchulz. She has been mentoring her for the last seven years. Shirley and Jessie have registered “Credit” as their kennel name and will gradually phase out “Chilcote.” Jessie being co-owner of Credit Brittanys will continue the tradition of breeding versatile, pretty, sound Brittanys that meet the Brittany standard.
Jessie graduated from the University of Florida in May 2010. She is a professional dog handler and travels the country attending dog shows. Please see her handling page for more information.
At the heart of Chilcote Brittanys are the beloved pets that bring love and devotion to their families. There is nothing more important to us than our dogs receiving loving homes where they can have a wonderful life. We would like to thank all those who have owned our dogs in the past, those who care for our dogs now, and all the future owners of a Chilcote Brittany. We cannot express enough gratitude for the wonderful life our dogs receive.
